Michael D. Reiter, PhD is Professor of Family Therapy in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Nova Southeastern University. Serious advaita

In this profound book the mystic/master Anandmurti Gurumaa gives her interpretation of a basic, classic text of Advaita Vedanta: Adi Shankara's "Atmashatakam". The basic message being - as with all advaita philosophy - that we are not the body, mind, senses but on the deepest level we are the One. Like everything else in existence.

In later years Advaita has become something of an embarrasing laughing stock 'thanks' to the misuse of the word by a host of Westeners who are completely distorting the basale understanding, people like Tony Parsons, Nathan Gill, Premananda a.m.o.. So it is definitely appreciated to have here a serious insightful exposition like Gurumaa's.

As always her spiritual analysis is peppered with anecdotes from her life and hits and hints to her apparently dimwitted disciples.

Excellent French Language book for Teachers and Students

As a French tutor and French native, I love this book. It teaches all aspects of the French language: Conversation, Grammar, Vocabulary and includes excellent Exercises (with answers in the back).
I recommend it highly to everyone, both beginners and those wanting to perfect his or her skills.

I love French.

I love this book. It is easy to read and it is easy to carry. I use it as a reference book because I have never taken French before. Sometimes when I am unable to understand, the authors' explanations are simple and easy to read. I really like the book. I also have the Spanish one, and I like it too.

Like wringing a sponge and soaking in the French

Hello. I have had this book for a few months now. I would like to say that it has been a big help. First of all, I'm a junior in high school who's taking French and desperately needed a study guide. Well this was it. What I love about this is all the exercises that it comes with. Every chapter has around 12 sections of exercises where you get to practice what you have acquired the few pages before. Thanks to this book (and summer tutoring), I have learned enough French that I was able to skip second year of French at my school.

Some important notes:
If you don't know anything about the French language, you'll find this book a hard one (Even though it's a Step-by-Step self study guide). For one thing, there is not a book in the world that can ever teach you the pronunciation needed. As for me, I had my French teacher give me a whole summer of French tutoring for free. That really helped with correct enunciation. I would recommend to the absolute beginner (especially those who are monolingual) to get in contact with mentor to help explain the difficult part of prounounciation. As you may or may not know, 80% of French words have mute endings that might or might not get pronounced depending on the next syllable. You really want someone to guide you if you're a beginner. Also, before you dive into this book, understand these few concepts:

(First List)
- Verbal Aspects
- Verbal Tenses
- Verbal Moods (especially the subjunctive)
- Direct Objects
- Indirect Objects
- Antecedent
- Relative clauses
- Verb Valency

If you have a curious mind (like the one I do) Google and learn the following:

(Second List)
- Why does French have grammatical gender?
- Why does every adjective have to agree in number and in gender with the main noun?

You see, by learning the things in the first list, I was better able to grasp the difficult aspects required to speak any language (Pun intended). Believe it or not, verbs are like rocket-science. They are really hard to understand unless you practice them everyday. This book doesn't cover the items in the first list very well. I recommend you look them up before beginning this book.

The second list, you curious minded folks, is not actually going to help you learn any French nor make this book a better read. (Yes, you read that right.) Instead, this list (the 2nd one) will help keep you from getting discouraged of learning French. By knowing and acknowledging the fundamental principles driving Romantic languages, you'll understand why French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and many other languages have abstract nouns with sex (chairs have boobies? doors are chicks now?) that we, English speaking folk, find so foreign yet so enticing. (Yes, in French, the chair you are sitting on is female and the door as well. Treat them nice!)

To conclude, I recommend this book. Who wouldn't, n'est pas? [neh-pAH]

As you read this review, have you ever wondered that everything we do has communication skills at its foundation?

The book's title indicates that it will be helpful to sales-people and how they may communicate in the business world to create more sales. Yes, I agree, and immensely so. However its content goes beyond that - it can, and probably should, be applied to any interaction between two or more humans in any and every area you can imagine...could you imagine that?!

Now aside from the book's content, it could use a dose of editing to make it a little more reader friendly. I was willing to overlook this detail and keep focussed on its powerful content. Accordingly, I thoroughly recommend it.

I just finished reading this wonderful book. The professional looking layout and presentation makes it easy and fun to read and understand. The part about "congruency" really helped me a lot. Most of the QUANTUM SELLING content reminded me of the SPEED SELLING TOO comb-bound manual with flash cards. The added pages of revisions and updates alone are worth the price of the book. I recommend this book for anyone wishing to excel in their chosen career field, whether it be sales or any area of their life endeavor !

A lively, enlightening introduction to monetary history from the libertarian economist whose contributions to the quantity theory of money earned him a Nobel Prize in 1976. Starting from the premise that no society or individual is unaffected by monetary policy (which centers on control of a nation's money supply), Friedman (co-author, Tyranny of the Status Quo, 1984, etc.) offers a quick and simplified briefing on monetary theory that stresses, among other matters, one of his favorite themes--that ``inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon.'' His stage set, Friedman ranges widely over time and place in demonstrating that there invariably is more than meets the eye to monetary events. He recounts, for example, how an 1873 coinage law had unintended consequences for American politics and economics over the next couple of decades. The author moves on to link the 1887 invention in Scotland of a process to extract gold from low-grade South African ore to the frustration of William Jennings Bryan's presidential aspirations in 1896 and beyond, moving smoothly into an accessible discussion of bimetallism. Friedman also makes a plausible case for the proposition that FDR's silver-purchase program during the 1930's hastened the Communist takeover of mainland China after WW II. Everyone you ever wanted to know about money but were afraid to ask

Friedman is perhaps best know to the general public for his vigorous defense of free market economics and limited government political philosophy. Within the academic world, however, Friedman is known for his economic theory of monetarism. Here Friedman again assumes the role of popular educator, but now does so to explain the nature and importance of currency. Friedman challenges the way most people think of money, indeed destroys some things most would take for granted. Money is, first and foremost, a social construct, and the value and usefulness of money can be enhanced or eroded as people gain or lose trust in a currency. Most of the book is a straightforward explanation of the nature of currency and the history of money - particularly in the United States. But Friedman does deviate from this basic purpose for a single chapter as he delves into some of the nitty gritty details of monetary economics. It's a chapter that, by his own admission, can and perhaps should be skipped by those lacking a firm grasp of economics, though its inclusion is worthy for those with some background in economics who still retain illusions about the nature of money.

Before you spout off about monetary policy, the Fed, central banks, fractional reserves, "banksters", or paper money, Read. This. Book. This book provides important historical insight, and gives a clearer idea of what money is. This book also clears up what inflation is, and what causes it, and how even gold-backed money can be inflationary. It even provides insight into the change from the old Democratic Party to the modern progressive Democratic Party, as well as the background on one of the most famous speeches in US history (for many years THE most famous speech). And it provides the story of how our shortsighted and then-protectionist monetary policy weakened the government in China and helped pave the way for the Communist takeover. A must read.

Very simple and clear explanation of monetary ideas

This book from Milton Friedman is the first one I read from him, although I've watched a lot of videos at youtube and other online channels with him. The monetary things are explained in his simple and clear style and while reading I get insights about things that were very messed up in my head before that. Highly recommend for general understanding of the problems of today's society like inflation, goverment regulations and policies and money. There are also some description of how the FED and the other central banks function, as well as general explanation of what money are. There are 2-3 chapters that are targeted at more experienced economists with some math formulas and statistics but in general the book is not scientific and is contributing to each mind that reads it.

Rai shows how the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir was formed as the East India Company marched into India beginning in the late eighteenth century. After the 1857 rebellion, outright annexation was abandoned as the British Crown took over and princes were incorporated into the imperial framework as junior partners. But, Rai argues, scholarship on other regions of India has led to misconceptions about colonialism, not least that a "hollowing of the crown" occurred throughout as Brahman came to dominate over King. In Kashmir the Dogra kings maintained firm control. They rode roughshod over the interests of the vast majority of their Kashmiri Muslim subjects, planting the seeds of a political movement that remains in thrall to a religiosity thrust upon it for the past 150 years.

The Challenging Natures of Kashmir

"Hindu Rulers, Muslim Subjects" covers the macro historical, social, religious, and political highlights in Kashmir from about 1840 to 1950. It is a fascinating view into a world far distant but fearfully close as two modern nuclear armed adversaries seek domination over the mystical lands of Kashmir. This is a book of essential preliminary understandings to the current situation in the region and of the volumes I have encountered is the best. I hope the author contemplates another book dealing with the post 1947 era. For those seeking recent political happenings, I suggest "Kashmir" by Sumantra Bose.
