[Kraemer] argues convincingly that our society needs a much heathier attitude toward sex. Her plea for more and healthier sex is only part of her argument. We need, she asserts, more touch--both sexual and nonsexual. Cutting our bodies off from loving, caring touch, we demean our humanity and deny our sacrality. [...] She believes the Pagan community can offer the best locus for this change because of its already established openness of alternative forms of both spirituality and sexuality. About the Author
Christine Hoff Kraemer holds a PhD in Religious and Theological Studies from Boston University. She is an instructor of Theology and Religious History at Cherry Hill Seminary. Kraemer's research focuses on contemporary Paganism, popular culture, body theology, and sexuality, and her publications include Seeking the Mystery: An Introduction to Pagan Theologies (2012) and Graven Images: Religion in Comic Books and Graphic Novels (2010, co-edited with A. David Lewis).

Rigorous common sense about bodies, sex, touch, and our future. Juicy, hot…..

Fabulous book. Kraemer has thoroughly reviewed diverse viewpoints of sexuality in a no- nonsense way, arriving at a theology of the sacredness of touch. While rigorous and academic, this book is also a clear, concise and evocative read; I keep dipping back into it for great sentences such as “Our erotic behavior should not be controlled by our fears and anxieties.” (p.144) I think we all need help decolonizing our brains around sexuality, and building relationships that offer physical nurture and help us reconnect with nature and the animal in ourselves. How else can we face our environmental challenges, except by embedding ourselves more fully in our bodies and our lives? She concludes with a call to “bring a practice of sacramental touch, not just into our families, but into our wider communities; to nurture both self-knowledge and desire, so that we can confidently say “yes” and “no” to touch; to cultivate discussions about consent, boundaries, and autonomy; to develop empathy and model mutuality; and to affirm that we are divine, yet made human for love’s sake – born for pleasure.” Amen.
