Par décret royal, sa victoire lui donne droit à un poste de conseiller sportif payé par le ministère marocain des sports. Il ne l'obtiendra jamais malgré ses nombreuses demandes qui finissent par être considérées comme des offenses au roi Mohammed VI.
C'est une histoire de violence. Lors d'une visite au Maroc, le 27 septembre 2010, Zakaria est enlevé, puis torturé pendant quatre jours au centre de Témara que ses bourreaux appellent les abattoirs de Sa Majesté. A l'issue d'une parodie de procès, il est condamné à 36 mois de prison ferme. Il y passe finalement 17 mois et découvre l'horreur des geôles marocaines : les cellules de 40 m² où s'entassent une cinquantaine de détenus, les cafards, la corruption, la prostitution...
C'est aussi, surtout, une histoire d'amour, celle de zak et Taline. Pendant sa détention, sa jeune épouse française Taline interpelle inlassablement les médias et les politiques, soutenue par des ONG dont Amnesty international. À la libération de Zak, ils doivent affronter une autre bataille, celle de la reconstruction de leur couple.
C'est une histoire bouleversante, racontée à deux voix, celles de Zak et Taline, et dont on ne connaît pas encore la fin. Ça ressemble souvent à un thriller. Tout y est pourtant vrai.
